vegemite

Are you an Aussie who loves Vegemite? Or a Brit who loves Marmite? Then you’ll love this recipe! All the yeasty, salty flavour, naturally! What I love about this recipe is the very subtle creamy-nutty flavour from the tahini that holds the salty/yeasty flavours. I’d expected it to be more pronounced, however, it actually turned out to be a beautiful undertone.

Nutritionally. You get a boost of minerals like copper, manganese, calcium, magnesium and iron from the black sesame seeds and a wide range of the B vitamins, including B12 (which is typically only found in animal-derived foods), from the savoury yeast flakes. There’s the added benefit that it’s free from gluten and other additives and preservatives. If you read the ingredients list of vegemite, you’ll find it contains barley, wheat, artificial colours and flavours.

Inspired by a recipe from Yoga in Daily Life here’s my recipe for DIY, wholefood vegemite.
