deodorant

Don’t want strange nasties rubbed all over your sensitive underarm skin? Me neither, that’s why I’ve been experimenting with my own, natural DIY deodorant recipes and I’ve finally found one I’m happy with! Check out my DIY deodorant recipe, below, it’s good enough to eat!

If you like this, then try my homemade moisturiser or body butter!

Makes about 1 Cup deodorant

Time – about 30mins

Ingredients:

  • 70g Shea Butter (you could also use cacao butter)
  • 60g Jojoba Oil or Macadamia
  • 10g beeswax
  • 10g potato starch (you can also use arrowroot or tapioca)
  • 25g bicarb (you can use more if you work up a particularly stinky sweat, but be careful, many people are sensitive to too much bicarb)
  • 50g bentonite clay or diatomaceous earth (or 25g of each)
  • Optional: 30-40 drops essential oils. I often use some combination of lavender, frankincense, tea tree, lime, wild orange, mandarin and peppermint.

Method:

  1. Melt the shea butter, jojoba oil and beeswax together in a double boiler.
  2. Add potato starch, bicarb, bentonite clay/diatomaceous earth and mix well to combine.
  3. Add your favourite essential oils, stir through, then transfer to a jar and allow to set. Use your fingers or a spatula to apply under your arms.
